The hardest part is showing up

Didn’t you start as a kid with so many possibilities ahead of you? You wanted to become a lot of things. You believed you could be anything. It just felt that everything was possible, reachable, when you were ten. But now that you finished that education, attained that degree, and have better access to opportunities, why not work on your dreams today?

Why is it that after you have reached that education level, you allowed yourself to give into doing nothing? When you were a kid, did you ever tell yourself that:

  • When I grow up, I will binge-watch all movies there is. That’s what I will just do all day for the rest of my life.
  • When I grow up, I will just spend my hours mindlessly scrolling through my social media feeds, passing time.”
  • When I grow up, I want to devote my hours in playing online games and be the best player in the world.”
  • When I grow up, I will just sleep the whole day and do nothing with my life.

As kids, we never though about those things. We were better than that. We dreamed of contributing something to the world. We dreamed of making an impact.

I want to be a doctor so I can help the sick.

But yes, we can’t all be doctors. But we can be someone who actually make things happen.

Don’t let your ego get in the way – just because you can’t keep up doesn’t mean you can’t show up.

You can be that someone again, who does things beyond yourself. Have a cause that is beyond yourself and you will be doing something worth your life. And when you find that cause, it wouldn’t be difficult to show up. Because you know that someone somewhere will thank you for doing what you do.

The hardest part is showing up. Because showing up requires work. But if you want to do something you think is worth doing, then do it.

You are only as strong and extraordinary as you give yourself reason to be. So determine your musts, my friend. Make them real. Feel them in your gut. Because the world needs you to show up now.
